This Year In Popular Gifts - 1982 - Glo Worm
In 1982 Hasbro launched the Glo Worm. This cute plush larva wearing green pajamas and a matching sleeping cap was a hit with kids and parent alike. The amazing feature of the Glo Worm was that when you squeezed it, a light bulb in the worms head would light up. This made it a great substitute or transition away for the ever-present night light a lot of children had.
The Glo Worm later turned into a successful franchise. Hasbro later released new characters and features including a Glo Worm that would play a song when triggered. There was even a Glo Friends television series that launched in 1986 but only lasted for one season.
Playskool (a division of Hasbro) still manufactures a pink and blue version of the Gloworm. Personally, I find the look of the original to be more appealing.
